Healing Beyond Borders: Dr. Peter Caron Brings Integrative Medicine to Guatemala

At Upper West Health, we believe wellness extends far beyond the walls of a clinic, it’s about bringing healing to where it’s needed most. This October, one of our own, Dr. Peter Caron, embodied that mission as he joined the Global Healthworks Foundation on a weeklong medical aid trip to Guatemala.

A Journey of Compassion and Purpose

From October 16–20, 2025, Dr. Caron and an international team of healthcare professionals set up temporary clinics in underserved Guatemalan communities. Over the course of five days, they treated more than 600 patients, providing acupuncture and holistic medical care to individuals who rarely have access to such services.

The team worked alongside local promoters and community partners who helped organize patient outreach and transportation. To make care accessible to everyone, Global Healthworks Foundation (GHF) provided free travel via microbuses, allowing patients from distant villages to reach the clinics safely. This ensured that even those living in remote areas could receive free, high-quality healthcare, many for the very first time.

From early morning until dusk, Dr. Caron and his colleagues treated a wide range of conditions, from chronic pain and fatigue to stress and trauma. Each day brought stories of resilience and gratitude, reaffirming the universal human need for care and connection.

Global Healthworks Foundation: Sustainable Healthcare in Action

The trip was made possible through the Global Healthworks Foundation (GHF), a nonprofit dedicated to delivering sustainable, integrative healthcare to communities around the world. GHF’s long-term presence in Guatemala has allowed volunteers like Dr. Caron to contribute to a system built on local trust and continuity, ensuring that care doesn’t stop when the clinics close.

Through this partnership, practitioners not only serve but also learn from local health leaders, sharing insights on traditional and community-based healing that align closely with the values of Upper West Health.

A Shared Vision of Well-Being

Dr. Caron’s work in Guatemala reflects the very heart of Upper West Health, the belief that wellness is a shared responsibility, one that transcends geography and income. His dedication to serving others underscores what it means to be part of a community of practitioners who value both local and global impact.

This mission is not just about treating illness. It’s about building bridges through compassion, empowering individuals with hope, and showing that integrative medicine can thrive in any corner of the world.

Continuing the Mission

Dr. Caron and his team are already planning to return for a mobile clinic in December, followed by another full clinic in March 2026. These ongoing efforts ensure that the support provided continues to grow roots in the community — creating lasting change one patient at a time.
